1898: RECOGNIZING 125 YEARS OF PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN HISTORY

Studio 5 is thrilled to announce our company-wide Cultural Celebration in honor of Filipino American History Month. This year's theme, “1898: Recognizing 125 Years of Philippine-American History,” carries significant importance, marking the 125th anniversary of the Philippine Revolution (1896-1898) and the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. Despite the Filipino people declaring their independence on June 12, 1898, neither Spain nor the U.S. included Philippine representation in the treaty negotiations. The treaty, concluding the Spanish-American War, led to the U.S. annexing the Philippines and granting them access to the U.S. at a time when other Asian countries faced immigration restrictions. Following 1898, a series of historical events unfolded, propelling Filipino Americans into integral roles within the American labor force, educational system, and military, profoundly shaping their trajectory and influence in the United States. Join us in commemorating this year’s Filipino American History Month as we recognize this pivotal historical juncture, urging reflection and acknowledgment of its multifaceted impact on Filipino-American identities and communities.
